Would
You Like To Find The Outstanding Skier Who’s Been Waiting
Inside Your Body? Then, All You Need To Do Is To Learn To Do
Nothing…The “Right” Nothing.
From Bernard Chesneau
National ski coach
Val d’Isère France
Dear friend and skier,
Picture yourself at the top of the mountain
and, as you are about to ski down, I’m asking you to tell me
if you know in advance exactly
what’s going to happen before you start?
What is your answer? Could it be
something like: “How can I know what will happen to me, I
haven’t gone down yet?” If this is your answer, it
is also the answer of 99% of people, and that’s why most
skiers’ performance is mediocre. How can it be any other way?
How confident will you feel, and how much control will you have when
not knowing your outcome with certainty?
Being uncertain about the outcome raises the
question that you might want to ask yourself right now.
Are You
Satisfied With The Way In Which You Are Skiing Right Now?
Have
you ever experienced…
Not
being able to keep up with your kids, family and friends.
Feeling
self conscious about your skiing standard.
Holding
people back.
Loosing
your confidence in bumps.
Fearing
icy slope.
Dreading
the noise of snowboarder nearby.
Not
being able to cope in bad weather.
Having
to put up with the crowd that is swamping the slope
you’re on because you haven’t got the ability to
escape off piste.
Wiping
out in power and having to spend 15 minutes to get you kit back
on.
Feeling
like packing it in because skiing no longer feels like a
holiday.
Failing
your ski instructor examination.
Underperforming
in ski races.
If you
are like most of us, feeling uncertainty is not satisfying because it
makes us struggle.
So what can we do about it?
What controls what happens to us is the law
of cause and effect. The law of cause and effect works like this:
Sam
is depressed. His wife leaves him and he gets fired from his
job for turning up late every morning after having hit the bottle the
night before. One day his car suddenly stalls on a railway
crossing and he dies from the collision with the train. The
law of cause and effect says that Sam is the only one
responsible for what happened. Not the train, not
the car, not the boss, not the booze, not the wife. Only him.
When
you get hit by a snowboarder you may feel like a victim and be certain
that it is not your fault. But to the law of cause and effect
the snowboarder was there to hit you because at some level you agreed
in thought to participate in the collision.
These statements, are pretty radical and
this might require thinking “outside the box” to
willingly accept this truth and I do not know if you will, I leave that
up to you, but there is one thing worth remembering. There is only one
mechanism that can explain the game of life we’re in (skiing
included) and this mechanism is the law of cause and effect.
This law is impartial and applies equally to all things. Whether Hitler
or Jesus drops a book, the book falls to the ground. Gravity
doesn’t care who dropped it and it is the same with the law
of cause and effect.
How brilliantly do you want to
ski? Ask yourself this question right now.

How To Find The Outstanding Skier
Who’s In You…
As long as we don’t know the
mechanism governing the law of cause and effect we will spend all our
time struggling against it wearing ourselves out. Chances
are, you are at the wrong end of the law of cause and effect. You are
experiencing unwanted effects in the form of poor skiing. What you
really want instead is to be able to control the cause.
Becoming an accomplished skier
and enjoying it is a CHOICE
Do You
Choose This?
…Or
Do You Choose This?

The
Choice is YOURS!
To ski
the way greats skiers do, all you need is to have the same thoughts
(that’s the cause) as great skiers and you will ski like them
(that’s the effect).
Ultimately, it’s from the mountain
itself and not from academic skiing institutions that I learned the
principles of doing the “right nothing” to ski as I
ski today, and this, I would like to share with you.
Imagine…Imagine being able to ski
anywhere on the mountain, at any speed you like, on any slope, in any
weather, in any snow conditions and be able to turn whenever and
wherever you want without falling over. Now,
wouldn’t it be cool to make this come
true?
Of course you can make this come true,
anyone can – Communication experts tell us that we
communicate 7% with words, and 93% with our body language.
Observing skiers has given me an insight into that 93%. To
ski better is to move in new and different ways we have not experienced
before. But to make those new moves we have first to
experience empowering new thoughts. When people ask me to
help them improve their technique, the question is really:
“Which technique needs improving?” Is it
the technique to manipulate our thoughts and our feelings or the
technique to execute mechanical movements with our body?
Movements executed by the physical bodyalways
result from movements first made in our minds. It makes
sense, therefore, to develop and structure the resources of our
thinking before making body movements.
How do you
get those powerful new thoughts that you’ve never had before?
With
these concepts, you’ll learn how to:
Overcome being-thought.
Develop your capacity to
make the right choices.
Awaken from the dream
that you are weak and accept the power that is within you by
knowing who you really are.
Use the power of the three laws that
govern skiing technique.
The
law of the Jaw
The
law of the Ankle
The
law of the Pelvis
Here is a true story
Frustration had him recoil into an intense
mechanical analysis of his mistakes whilst his wife waited at the
bottom of the slope. At this point I felt that he believed he
had not been given enough “technical”
input. My suspicions were confirmed when I saw William
enrolling on a course with the competition. Personally, I
suspected a deeply conditioned personality trait, combined with the
emancipated skiing of his wife, to be responsible for his poor skiing
performance. After a day out with another ski school William
returned, more confused about powder skiing then ever.
I felt that it was now time to use heavy artillery to get the message
across, so began our conversation by highlighting two skiing
philosophies: one based on doing “the right
nothing”, the other based on doing the “wrong
something”. Right and wrong have specific meanings,
I said. In this context something is
“right” when results are inspired from the
energy of universal intelligence. Because universal
powers do the work there is “nothing” more for you
to do. Whereas, something is “wrong” when
it is inspired from the fear energy of the ego. As
we know, the ego is always imposing “something” to
remain in charge. Once you grasp the idea that given half a
chance the universe will move on your side, and give you the win
you’ve been striving for, then it makes sense to prefer a
system based on faith rather than one based on the ego’s
fears. “You can either operate within a
faith-based environment and win” I said to him,
“or, you can remain your ego’s slave and
keep on making head plants. It’s your
choice”. “So what is your
choice?” I asked.
“The right nothing”, he said… On that
day, in knee-deep powder, William …embodied in one second
the meaning of the “right nothing”. In
so doing he ended his skiing struggle. Best of all,
he never reverted to his old ways and skied in deep powder happily
thereafter.
One of
the greatest gift to give someone is to help them become confident to
be who they really are and see them achieve what is their heart.
And wouldn’t you, in
your heart, like to:
Ski
with confidence in narrow gullies and in crowded slopes.
Become
immune to the screeching noise of snowboarders and other skiers
passing by.
Become
immune to bad weather
Handle
ice with ease.
Play
with bumps.
Experience
freedom and joy in powder
Find
more than one hundred and twenty-five pictures, showing you how it is
done.
Know
how skis work.
Know
that the mountain has power steering and is there to help you turn.
Know
about orthotics and alignment and why it is important for your
stability and balance.
And what
If… in your heart… you no longer had fear!
You will experience
confidence and courage instead; this I promise.
What these principles are
not…
It is not about knee bending, nor pole
planting, nor jumping, nor transferring weight, nor facing down the
hill, nor any other fear induced manoeuvre that would ultimately be
holding you back.
This book challenges existing beliefs about
what thoughts are and how they operate. It proposes a “faith
based” system to generate results rather than the more usual “fear
based” system.
Depending on your present alignment with life I believe that you will
be either totally captivated or dismissive of the powerful concepts
revealed.
Whatever is the case, it is my sincere wish
that you will enjoy trying these ideas to permanently enhance your
skiing performance and, as the Great Chinese philosopher
said, “to know oneself”.
Here’s What To Do Now…
Up until now, people had to travel to Val
d’Isère France and pay hundreds and sometimes
